It is that time of the year - Easter and a chocolate fest has been and gone, hangovers, boozy lunches and get togethers from the Christmas holidays are long lost memories and those resolutions that "I'll start again in the New Year" have, after an initial great start now: GONE TO POT.
It is no longer possible to blame the stress of relatives or friends visiting driving us to drink and eat more and exercise less than we have bargained for. We are accountable for the waistlines we have expanded and if our fitness regime is OUT OF THE WINDOW it is our fault. Who can blame us? Nights getting darker, mornings getting colder, it all makes you want to rug up and stay at home under the duvet. The intentions are there. That Bootcamp, Boxing or Metafit Class looks great, yet we self sabotage with rubbish excuses. The month of May is about exercising "Maybe". I've been guilty of this too. Well I'm here to do you and your body a favour - I'm hoping this post KICKS YOUR BUTT! Put on the breaks, not "ifs", "buts" or "May-bes" !
The 2016 Story so Far......
The 1st of January 2016 came a knocking with its optimism, this was your year to be the fittest and best version of yourselves. We all do it - we are saints for a couple of days but slowly getting up at 6:00 am for a run or going to our new exercise class becomes a drag. We make excuses - the kids are on holidays, we are on holidays , it is far too hot to work out, work has started, we are busy and suddenly January has passed with its broken New Year's resolutions : shattered due to a lack of willpower and not helped by sunshine, sea, sand and surf and the feeling that Summer won't last forever. If that isn't enough temptation then comes Australia Day - BBQ invites piled high with booze, pavs, chips and dips and a public holiday to get us on the party mood- so obviously, we need to make the most of it. We will start again next week...after all January is the worst month to start a new fitness regime - too many distractions.....
We will start in February ........fit Feb then begins - you are on Feb fast, it is all going swimmingly, for the first week anyhow...... until the 14th and then the Valentine's Bug hits : chocolate, champers - you've broken that Paleo plan and suddenly the self sabotaging starts .... oh and then well is it worth doing it now Easter is up next.
Do you spot a pattern ? Yes?
Excuses are our worst False Enemies
The truth is it is VERY EASY to make excuses, here are some I see every week :
1- Too Hot/Cold;
2- Too little time;
3- Too expensive;
4- I'll do it tomorrow, next week, next month;
5- too tired.....;
6- I have the kids, dog, friends with me.
Here are my responses to the above:
1- Change your active wear and your attitude;
2- Make time;
3- Invest in yourself, no one else will;
4- Now or never, Don't think : do !;
5- Exercise = Energy, trust me and let me show you and help you change your attitude;
6- Bring them with you, the more the merrier.
What to see changes ?
I ask one simple thing this week. Don't put something integral to your health and well being in the too hard box. Do something different - you don't need to sign up to 4 classes a week and cut out every food group known to man. Start slowly pencil in one small change, be it diet or exercise.
STOP putting barriers in the way and START by thinking less and doing more. You want to get fit ? Schedule it in - period. You know what you need to do, just do it - stop procrastinating- focus on the amazing benefits of exercise (better moods, weight loss, gains in strength, better sleep....). Don't think : Do and make May not a month of Maybe I will do it but I will do it. MOJO Back? Well before it stops sign up to something and do it. Only you have the power to do this , so stop making excuses your friend and make them your enemy- beast mode and go kick some butt - preferably your own Don't Think: DO ! Chantal x
